A very fine cylinder bureau from the last quarter of the 18th Century; cross banded overall with mahogany and with ebonised detail. A Pair of concave fronted drawers above the cylinder front with inlaid bow tied husk swag, oipening to reveal various drawers and compartments, above a drawer and a pair of oval panelled cupboard doors and raised on bracket feet. The commode doors' ribbon banding and inlaid ornament reflects the Roman fashion popularized by Hepplewhite's Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788. |
A trestle base Regency mahogany writing table having writing slides on each end, inset with leather, with dummy drawers (without handles but with keyholes) on one side and working drawers on the other, the trestle legs with beaded ebonized molding, turned rosettes flanked with carved scrolls at the top and the base, the base concealing casters. Slides and top with embossed, replaced Moroccan leather. Stamped:T. Willson 68 Great Queen Street London, top right drawer. English, Circa 1820
